"Home Sweetie Home" Casts Offends Kpop Fans After Disrespectful Comment Against Super Junior
Super Junior is one of the most senior boy bands in Korean pop. They have been performing for more than thirteen years now after debuting in 2005 under SM Entertainment. Because of their hard work, charisma, and talent, they eventually became well-known not only in Korea, but in the whole world as well.
On the other hand, BTS, or Bangtan Boys, are considered 'newbie' when compared to Super Junior. Although both groups equally have large fan bases, BTS debuted years later than Super Junior in 2013.
Super Junior's official fandom calls themselves "ELF." They have millions of fans, and many of them felt that the Kapamilya sitcom "Home Sweetie Home" casts disrespected their idol after saying some unsavory things about Super Junior. For those of you who haven't watched the episode, the "Home Sweetie Home" casts flew to South Korea.
During one of their segments, Empoy mentioned the boy band. Their exchange went as follows:
"Kasama ba sa ‘Seoul bucket list’ niyo ang pagpunta niyo sa Super Junior? Isama niyo ako, ah?”
"BTS na ang uso ngayon! Napaka ‘Tito’ mo talaga… Super Junior, sobrang luma! Baduy!"
Since this episode was shoot in South Korea, many fans immediately caught wind of the controversial comments. As expected, thousands of K-pop fans were offended and the casts of "Home Sweetie Home" earned the wrath of Super Junior's fan base.
Fans took to social media to express their wrath against the casts. Some even demanded public apology from the show, and the sitcom complied by posting the following statement in their official Facebook account:
"Home Sweetie Home apologizes for a dialogue on our December 22 episode which has offended some of our Kapamilya Super Junior fans. We have high respect for SuJu and acknowledge that they are one of the first groups to pave the way for KPop Revolution in the PH. We intended to establish their seniority, but we admit that we should have used better terms to say it."
