The whole Philippines rejoiced when Catriona Gray was hailed as the Miss Universe 2018 during the grand coronation night in Bangkok, Thailand, last December 17. The 24-year-old beauty queen's supporters all over the world cheered and applauded as red-clad beauty queen took her first walk as the Miss Universe 2018.
However, it seems like not all people are glad for Catrion Gray's win. You cannot please everybody, and there will always be haters, but what's sad is when beauty queens try and tear each other down. Recently, a titleholder from Paraguay received backlash online after allegedly throwing shade at Catriona.
Clara Sosa, a Paraguayan model and TV host was crowned Miss Grand International 2018. Sosa went viral earlier this week for her alleged unsavory comment against the grand coronation night of Miss Universe. Right after the winner was announced, Sosa posted a photo with Nawat Itsaragrisil on Instagram. Her captions reads:
"Mabuhay! Real cooking show lol!"
The photo she posted was taken from the kitchen, but people thought this was all too coincidental. Because of the bad timing, many fans thought that Clara Sosa is trying to throw shade against Catriona Gray.
The "Mabuhay!" phrase is a Filipino greeting often used by Pinay beauty queens during pageants, be it local or international. On the other hand, the "cooking show" is often used as a way to insinuate that a competition has unfair outcome.
Because of her shady statement, many people can't help but feel disappointed at Clara Sosa. Some netizens even demanded to have her dethroned, since badmouthing fellow beauty queens is not a great quality for a title holder.
On the other hand, Catriona Gray is yet to offer her official statement regarding this matter. As of this moment, the Miss Grand International Winner hasn't yet responded to any of her critics.
